Raja Saheb (Ashok Kumar) is a rich man who has two sons. Having a very strict father, the two sons Virendra (Sunil Dutt) and Mahendra feel jailed in their own home. One day one of them dies of shock when his father got angry on him. Left alone and feeling sick at home one night Virendra left home and starts going out with his friend (Pran) who spoils him. There he meets a poor girl (Nutan) and fells in love with her. Later he decides to marry her. At his home, his father feels becomes ill and feels lonely at house. When Virendra tells his father about his love, his father takes him to his own past when he was in love with a poor girl. Due to the dis agreement of her father she died leaving a daughter (Padmini) behind, who nowadays dances on road to earn living. Sunil Dutt then decides to bring his sister in his house with family.
Will he be able to explain her his relationship? Will he be able to bring her home? How will he explain his mother about her step daughter?
